According to the poet Homer, the name of Zakynthos was derived from the first inhabitant of Zante Island - who was named Zakynthos. He was the son of King Dardanus, the founder of Dardania, which is now known as Troy. According to myth, Dardanus was the son of Zeus and Electra. Zakynthos settled on the island around 1500BC and according to one version of the myth, he was the one to escort the demi-god Hercules to Spain. During their return Zakynthos died and was buried on the island. According to other historical sources, the name of Zakynthos is derived from the words Za and Cynthos, which means hill and corresponds to the mountainous landscape of Zakynthos.
Zakynthos is the third largest island in the Ionian Sea, having a distinct cultural presence and noteworthy agricultural activity. It has a mild mediterranean climate and rich flora and fauna. The natural beauty and cultural tradition of the island render it one of the most popular destinations in Greece and Europe, because it has its own airport. it is a really unique holiday destination.
Blue Villas is a private, peaceful and romantic villa complex comprised of six traditional Zakynthian stone houses. The villas has an outstanding location with direct access to the sea and the legendary, impressive Priest's Cave. Complex is surrounded by rich nature and placed in one of the last unspoiled areas in the Nothern part of Zakynthos Island next to Agios Nikolaos marina-port. Villas are situated on private land of over 40.000 sq.m, offering breathtaking panoramic sea views to the North Eastern part of Zakynthos, Alikes, Vassilikos and Kefalonia Islands. Blue Villas have direct access to the sea by way of a stone path constructed with great care leading down to the sea.
